2012 CLEAR LAKE TOURNAMENT REPORT

Post by Limit »

We had a great tournament on Saturday at Clear Lake! We had a good field of 23 boats, the fish were biting on any presentation, many fish were brought to the scale, and we had another large crowd at the weigh in. The water temp is in the low 60s and the fish are on the bite. Every team caught fish, but to do well teams needed to bring 5 fish around the 17 inch class or better to the scale to make the money. We had good support from teams around the Clear Lake area and they showed us how to catch the better fish. Also, we had a couple young anglers fish with their dads and a number of other father son & father daughter teams, which is great to see!

Here are the results! For 5th place with 4 nice fish for 7.92 lbs, including a 2.76 pounder for big fish honors, was the team of Ryan O’Tool & Paul Swann from Mason City. Finishing in 4th place with 5 fish for 8.54 lbs was the father son team of Dave & Bryce Murray from Carlisle. For 3rd place with 5 fish for 8.92 lbs was the team of Creighton Whitehill & Thane Benz from Mason City & Storm Lake. Finishing in 2nd place with 5 fish for 9.42 lbs was another father son team of Chris & Levi Scholl from Manly. And taking top honors with a very nice basket of 5 fish for 10.12 lbs was the team of Al Gilbert & Mark Halverson from New Hampton and a new team fishing the Cedar Valley circuit this year! Talking with teams afterwards it seems trolling cranks was the presentation for most of the top teams, but fish were caught on any and every presentation. The Club's total take for this tournament was $638! This tournament wraps up a busy spring schedule for the Cedar Valley Walleye Club tournaments and we hope to see everyone in September. Have a great summer!
