STORM LAKE 4/16/11 TOURNAMENT REPORT

Post by Limit »

Well we caught some fish this tournament! The walleye bite on Storm Lake was not great, but out of the 24 boats that fished the tournament we had 14 legal fish brought to the scales. I’m sure most of the anglers were reading the pretournament internet reports of shore anglers limiting out within minutes, catching a ton of fish, and anticipating a tremendous bite. Well that was not the case! The week before the tournament the bite was on fire, but that changed a couple of days before anglers drove into town to prefish. With the spawn coming to an end, colder weather dropping the water temp, and four days of 30 mph north winds dirtying up the water, the bite suffered. The water temp on Wednesday afternoon reached 56 degrees and on Saturday morning of the tournament it was 45. Fast dropping water temps and muddy water are not ideal conditions, but our tournament anglers proved that fish can still be caught. Great job guys!
So for the results! The 5th place team was Dave & Tom Merron with one fish weighing 1.22lbs for $115. The 4th place team was Terry Blank & Carl Teske with two fish weighing 2.30 lbs for $346. The 3rd place team was Jeff & Darwin Heltibridle with two fish weighing 2.50 lbs for $461. The second place team was Kyle Colbert & Adam Bentz with two fish weighing 2.68 lbs for $576. And taking the top spot with one 22 ¼” fish weighing 3.12 lbs for $806 was Walter Ertz & Mike Everett. Congrats to all the top teams and especially to Walter Ertz, one of our past presidents, who has and still does donate a ton of his time and money to the club and it is nice to see him take the top spot!
And I’m proud to announce the clubs total take for this tournament was $1131, including 21 new memberships to fish the tournament!
The prevailing technique that most of the top teams used to catch their fish was bobber fishing live bait in 1-5 feet of water. Thanks to all the anglers for fishing the tournament and supporting our club!

Kyle Colbert, CVWC Tournament Director

P.S. Old Fisheye better be careful about reporting outboard mechanical issues in the future! For what goes around comes around! I couldn’t help myself Fisheye, great job on Sunday!
