February Meeting

Post by Limit »

Dan Kirby, Iowa DNR Northeast Regional Fisheries Biologist, will be giving a presentation at the February monthly club meeting on 2/2/15. I wanted to give Dan an idea as to what questions, concerns, topics our club members would like to hear him talk about. Dan will not be able to cover everything, but please post to this thread what you guys what to hear about so that I can forward that info to Dan.

Thx, Kyle

Growth rate and max age of pan fish?

I would like some info on how many pan fish per acre of water you can harvest out of a body of water per year? How does this harvest affect the fishery of a farm pond or smaller lakes. (under 50 acre)?

Harvest of male or female bluegills in the spring affect the spawn?

Over population of small pan fish that never seem to grow in some body's of water. Is there anything that can be done to help them grow?

The newly dredged cut lakes in Iowa seem to produce well with new habitat and food. Will these continue to produce fish for years or is this short lived?

Maybe some info on if there is a cycle on fish why some years are better than others. Why some years it seems like all you get is 4 to 5 in bluegills and the next year 80% will be 7 to 8 in. This is on the rivers. I know some of it is the year of the hatch.

I would like to know what the impact of these big huge flocks of geese are having on some of our lakes with all the manure going into them. Does this affect the fish population? Randy H.
