I had the camera out and ready fish eye. However no white pickup or a ranger trailer in the Harpers boat ramp. Rumoor from the spillway bar is handline1 and his bud were somewhere between the iron bridge at Lansing and the Ia. Minn, border.I hope he got a new Licence. I did hear some fish got cleaned down by Matt's trailer???????????????????

On the "Maiden Voyage" with the new Black 619 Ranger, Walleye1 and I fished Pool 9 on 4/8 and did see a Red Ranger just in time for some help to untangle Walleye1's handline cable from the main motor prop. After cutting, untangling, and recrimping the cable we were back in action. It took a little bit of time to get use to handlining out of the new Ranger. After we did figure out how to work the iPilot in conjunction with the kicker it was clear sailing. 49 degree water temp, ripping current, and a very cold 10-20 mph NW wind, but we did manage 5 keepers and saw the Red Ranger boat some fish. Tried to get an official "Fisheye News Report", but the Red Ranger was a little microphone shy, and on the follow up report Handline1 said he couldn't talk because the cold weather had given him a bad cold. It was a great first trip with the new boat and I learned a very important lesson. When trolling make sure the main motor is in gear. Just because the engine is off the prop can still turn and tangle up any lines that get in its way.

Yes it is true I caught and released my first Ranger boat.
It is a sad day when you take out your brand new Ranger on the madien trip hell bent to impress the walleye world with the latest and greatest of everthing you need to catch a walleye. Catching a walleye should be a no brainer!
I'm sorry I don't have pictures. But lets just say I saw things that did not look right. While heading up river I saw two guys drifting down river without a clue of what to do praying for some help. An older nasty river scum line covered seasoned Ranger was able to free a slight mishap of the much newer less seasoned Ranger.
For all you guys that thinks that this type of fishing is for them, Ask yourself this question.
Can I cut myself free from the prop wrap of death before I fall in, or ruin the seals in the lower unit, or the barge runs me over?

It's still a Nice ride Kyle.

Well, don't feel bad WALLEYE1, I created a birds nest or two yesterday when I went of with Limit. I will now be the key note speaker on "Birds Nest and Handlines" at the next meeting, followed up by "Doing Everything Possible to Knock a fish off a Crankbait with a Net but, Still get it in the Boat."

On a positive note: #1 we got it out of our system for the year #2 we had fun and caught some fish and #3 and most importantly we didn't leave the handline reels at home!

Firetiger, I'm sure boat control wasn't an issue for bird's nests so join the club of handlining. You have to be patient with one of them and eventually you can almost go a day without one. You guys did pretty good and there is nothing that feels like a good walleye on a straight line. RH
Rooster, I'm all shot to pieces, well you asked for it.
