Bill,

Some fish were caught by our boat. Nothing spectacular but enough to keep you interested. We had 8 walleye keepers Friday, 6 for the fish fry on Saturday and 5 keepers Sunday morning with a 19" sauger bonus. For me the weather was just right not to want to drag the camera out. I should of taken a picture of a flat bottom that looked like it was on fire with Santa driving. Turned out to be a bon fire only in the boat.

The fish fry was fantastic!! Tim and Ben did an excellent job.

Doug,

Thanks for the report. Bon fire in Santa's boat? Wing Ding in it? Other than that, sounds like a good time. I've had some of Ben's fish samples, pretty good fish cooker!

Tim, Tom, Ben and Charlie Ahrens report from Red Wing.

Got started fishing 12:30 Friday afternoon. Went to (High Banks) casted small jig's, plastic and hair. Charlie was fishing vertical under the boat in 18 feet and caught a keeper I think both Tom and Ben each caught keepers while I was casting. I had one Walleye and 2 crappies casting and decided we should all go vertical. Started at the blue barrel on the north end and drifted down almost to the house. Stayed till 4:30 pm. Ended up keeping 8 walleyes (16 to 18 inch), 3 nice saugers, 2 crappies and a big northern. Released a 23 inch walleye along with a variety of other fish.

Saturday- fished 8am. to 4pm. Started at high banks. Rain, wind, lousy weather. Vertical jigged hair tipped with minnow. Ben used small 1/4 oz. jig with Berkley T-Tail minnow, plastic. caught several keeper walleye right away then it slowed down. Kyle came down around 9:00 and Ben Jumped in with him. Kyle and Ben fished till 11:30 or so and then went upriver. They called us around 1:30 and said they caught some nice fish around Covill Park, we joined them there and also caught several keepers.
Ended up with 16 nice walleye's / Saugers. that includes 2 boats (5)of us with Kyle. Ben Released another 23" walleye.

Sunday- rain, light wind, Started at Covill Park caught 2 keepers, pulled out went to high banks caught 3 more, left around noon headed home. (Released the Fish)

Like Doug stated. Fishing was slow to fair. just enough to keep you going. We would catch a couple and then go a while with nothing. All in all, we had a good weekend. Ben said he's ready to go back!

The Fish Fry was fun, good food, cold beer, good company!

Fishing was good this weekend. As far as fish catching for the whole group, I think it was our best trip to date! I fished by myself Friday evening catching only 2 eaters. Saturday I fished all day with Pool 4 Master Guide Ben Ahrens and we caught 5 eaters, Ben caught a nice 23.25" walleye that we released to become a big fat Pool 4 mama, and a half dozen dinks before a thunderstorm sent the Evinrude running for the ramp. Saturday night we had the traditional fish fry with Tim & Ben Ahrens doing all the work and they did a great job! I stayed till Monday morning and went out to fish Sunday evening to be greeted by 25-35 mph NW winds. I went into search mode to find a place somewhat out of the wind and the structure that would likely hold a pig. I was rewarded with a 27" 7lb12oz eye that officially started my fall river bite. Here are a couple of pics I took. It was a good trip and I already blocked 10 rooms for November 14 & 15 2014!

Jim and I did not do as good as last year but we caught enough to keep it interesting.
Jim did catch this nice one so we built a fire to cook it, but Jim let it go.

Can't add much more than reported. Only excitment for the santa boat was lighting the catalletic heaters. If youd seen the fire in the parking lot it might have gotten 'ole' santa the pink flamingo awared. The re-light in the boat was very mild by comparisom. We got our share of fish but dissapointed from last years limits of eyes obd and I got. Oh Well. That's fishing. Had a great time with the comeradity. Next year pres. Tim we'll do 3 fryers. Great fry. Till 2014---let's fish! Jim.
