While I look forward to fishing the 2012 schedule as it really benefits me in a lot of ways, I just have to ask why are we having 2 tournaments out of Harpers Ferry? We do have the whole river possibly to use and seek out new spots and friends.

p.s. Kyle - Thanks for stepping up and running the tourneys again. You have done an excellent job.

Re: 2012 CVWC Tournaments
I have to ask why one pool is better then the next?
I have myself seen big fish come out of pool 4,9,10,11, and 13 in the spring. I would love to go to pool 9 in March, but the ramp issue comes up. You have to get the boats in the water to have tournament. As a board we have to make sure that happens to make some money for the club. In the past we have tried to go to other spots on the river in march. But we all know what has happened, flooded ramps and decisions to make.
A few more thing to think about.
The farther down river, the more flood water coming into the river. The bigger the mess!
Slot pools to deal with down river. could be good or bad. You can look at that one both ways, but it can be something to deal with.
The club went to Storm Lake and Clear last year and are going back this year. Members like these events and made money for the club. We can pass on these and run more and different river pool tournaments instead, But people will be unhappy about that.
I would like to fish new water and meet new people. But as a board you make decision to make money for the club.

Re: 2012 CVWC Tournaments
I wasn't able to fish the cvwc tournaments last yr. due to the fact they were on the same dates as some other tournaments I fished but I'm looking at fishing them again next yr.
I wanted to suggest to the board that they look at the dates of when they have the tournaments, I know everyone wants to get out in the spring but if you save the river tournaments til fall I think you would have a better turnout and wouldn't have to worry about high water.
Storm lake is real good the first of may, say next yr. may 5.,last yr. the club fished it in april and I seen the results, I fished the I.O.W.A. tornament 2 weeks after and limited out by 9:30.
Clear lake gets real good right around the clear lake classic and is real good into june which brings me to another suggestion of going to catch, photo, and release. I know there was a issue with the club about how many fish you could keep during a tournament well this would take care of that problem and you could also count slot fish at storm lake. Another thing it allows is fishing in june when rathbun is at its best if you wanted to fish there..just some thoughts i wanted to throw out there..

Re: 2012 CVWC Tournaments
Well here I go, I hope this doesn't get too long winded. Here are the reasons the board decided on the 2012 schedule.
1.) The board decided to still have a March tournament even though the last two March tournaments have been far from successful. We have had some very good weigh-ins from March tournaments in the past and hope the river and weather cooperate in 2012. Also, everyone seems to be more eager to break the cabin fever and go fishing earlier in the tournament season. As Terry has mentioned, Harpers has the one of the only high water ramps and that was the main reason behind that location.
2.) I have been in contact with the tournament director of the Storm Lake Walleye Battle and he wanted to stay with April and combining our tournaments on the same weekend benefit both tournaments and that tournament is by far the clubs biggest money maker of all of our tournaments and our club anglers like the chance to stay on Sunday and fish another tournament.
3.) The board feels that Clear Lake is ready to explode and wanted to have another spring tournament there. May is our open month and we had to schedule around Mother’s Day Weekend, The Clear Lake Classic, and Memorial Day Weekend.
4.) New for 2012. Hoping to boost our Multi-Species Tournament field and build off what we feel are some benefits of the Multi-Species we are going to try a club points tournament in conjunction with the Multi-Species tournament. Two tournaments in one! Anglers can enter both tournaments or the single tournament of their choosing. Meal provided after the tournament as well as some raffles! Because of the Tremendous support from the Jochumsen Family and Taylor’s Crew it is a no brainer to stay with the Noble’s Island Landing and Pool 10!
5.) Because of the overall success and multiple compliments from our tournament anglers we are going back to Lansing in October for another 2-Day tournament.
6.) As far as CRR (Catch, Record, Release), for the tournament angler it is a GREAT concept. For a tournament director and/or board it is a DISASTER!!! Instead of weighing one basket of fish for a boat the tournament director has to verify every single fish entered via photo. Make sure the length is correct and also look for markings to identify each individual fish. All this takes time and the last I checked the CVWC Tournament Directors salary from the club couldn’t buy a tootsie pop. Also, a team has a winning basket of fish, but failed to accurately take the proper photo of one of their fish and you as a tournament director have to tell them that they lost not because they didn’t catch the best fish, but because one of their photos was bad. We all know how that ends. I have fished CRR tournaments and they are the future of walleye tournaments, but like any new ground breaking idea there are many anglers scared of it and it will take sometime to be accepted by the majority.
Everyone’s ideas are welcome on this forum and we as a tournament board are glad our club anglers are expressing their opinions.
