LAKE PEPIN TOURNAMENT REPORT

Post by Limit »

Finally, a CVWC tournament with good weather and rising water temps. The water temp rose from 64 to 72 degrees during my time on Pool 4. There were even some comments that the weather was a little too warm on Saturday, I being one of them. But after the gantlet of freezing temperatures, wind, rain, and severe cold front conditions of the last three tournaments it was nice to fish in warm, sunny, and calm conditions. The talk from the anglers during prefishing was the legal fish were hard to come by and everyone was wondering if anyone had found a secret big fish spot that Pool 4 is known for. Well it turned out that the big fish were hard to come by and the teams that found spots were they could catch their limit finished at the top.

Now to the nitty gritty! We had 16 teams fish the fourth tournament of the 2011 CVWC Tournament Schedule! Finishing in 5th with a limit of 5 fish for 6.52 lbs was the team of Bob Stewart & Mike Everding for a check of $51. Finishing in 4th with 4 fish for 7.08 lbs was the team of Jim Dengler & Tony Jochumsen for a check of $154. Finishing in 3rd with a limit of 5 fish for 8.64 lbs was the local team of Joe Newcomb & Brian Bee for a check of $205. According to Joe, the team was trolling leadcore in the lake having their best luck on #7 Shad Raps in the color Hot Steel! Finishing in 2nd with a three fish bag, anchored by a 6 plus pound walleye, for 9.48 lbs was the team of Kyle Colbert & Adam Bentz for a check of $256. Kyle & Adam were also trolling leadcore in the lake to catch their fish. And finishing in 1st with a very nice limit of 5 fish for 9.90 lbs was the team of Jerry & Larry Schilling for a check of $358. According to the Schilling’s, they were jigging livebait at their “secret spot!” The club’s total take from this tournament was $351, including 3 new members! Make sure to attend the June monthly meeting to hear more how the top teams caught their fish at both the Clear Lake & Lake Pepin Tournaments! Hope everyone has a good summer and make plans to fish the Pool 9 tournament in October!
